Research Profile
I have been working on how to build knowledge bases required in daily lives by utilizing existing knowledge resources and the Web. The effort is to overcome knowledge scarcity problems in various types of information seeking behaviors, especially in the domain of information retrieval and situation-aware computing.
The main assumption is that the growing number of user-generated contents in the Web will become the main source for the knowledge bases which bridges the gaps between user intent and user targeting services. Also, the users are not only recipient, but also active collaborator who assists the knowledge construction to build robust knowledge extraction modules and to extract reusable knowledge in an evolving manner.
Therefore, I have been working on diverse projects that focus on construction, enrichment, refinement, and utilization of the knowledge bases for information retrieval, human-robot interaction, and various types of recommendation and classification problems. The examples are Korean commonsense knowledge construction using English commonsense knowledge (i.e., ConceptNet), hybrid mood classification on blogs, script-based cognitive architecture for HRI, automatic situation ontology construction by mining how-to instructions, and knowledge support architectures for semantic web service composition. Those works were published in major journals or conferences including JWS, IEEE COMMAG, ESWC, and WI.
