The School is one of the largest computing schools in Australia. It offers undergraduate programs in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Bioinformatics, as well as a number of combined degrees with other disciplines. It attracts excellent students who have an outstanding record in international competitions. At the postgraduate level there is a large PhD research program and course work programs at the Master’s and Graduate Diploma level in Computing and Information Technology and at Graduate Certificate level in Computing.
The position is associated with an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant funded project “Computer-Aided Diagnosis and Longitudinal Tracking of Benign Asbestos-Related Pleural Disease in CT Images”. The research will involve development of a Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system that incorporates novel computer vision and knowledge acquisition techniques for quantification and assessment of asbestos-related pleural disease (ARPD). Collaborating researchers include computer scientists (Professor Arcot Sowmya and Professor Paul Compton, UNSW), and clinician-researchers (Dr Deborah Yates and colleagues at St Vincent’s Hospital and Professor Paul Thomas, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney).
The position is fixed term, initially for one year, within a three-year grant. The successful candidate will be appointed at the relevant level and step of the salary range.
