Job Details:

A postdoctoral fellow is sought (PDF) for the development of visualization tools for the integration of data associated with elucidating the relationship between plant genotypes and the resultant phenotypes (G2P) in non-constant environments. The position, which is part of a multi-team effort, is sponsored by the iPlant Collaborative (http://iplantcollaborative.org), which implements cyberinfrastructure support for the plant sciences. The successful candidate will be housed at Virginia Tech, and will work with a multi-institutional team of investigators on visualization tools, as well as with members of other iPlant G2P teams, and with cyberinfastructure developers located at the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Qualifications include either familiarity with functional genomics (preferably, but not necessarily, plant-centered) and bioinformatics tools; programming experience (at the level of a scripting language such as PERL/PYTHON/RUBY or above), or computer visualization expertise (dynamic image generation, familiarity with 3D models, Google O3D and/or Flash), and a grasp of the fundamentals of contemporary biology. Inquiries should be directed to Dr. Ruth Grene. The position will become available October 1. A full description of the iPlant G2P project can be found online at http://ipg2p.iplantcollaborative.org.
