The University of Maryland is seeking an energetic post-doctoral researcher at the intersection of information retrieval and natural language processing for a project focused large-scale document analysis using the MapReduce programming model. This project provides an opportunity to work in the emerging area of “cloud computing” and tackle text processing problems “at scale.” The successful candidate will have a strong track record of productive research and successful implementation in information retrieval, human language technologies, text mining, and related areas. Previously research with a focus on scalability and algorithmic efficiency will be highly valued. Prior experience with MapReduce is a plus, but not necessary.

The post-doctoral researcher will become a member of the Laboratory for Computational Linguistics and Information Processing (CLIP), a large, multi-disciplinary research group with strengths in statistical machine translation, summarization, question answering, information retrieval, and other areas in the human language technologies. CLIP is active in the area of cloud computing and maintains strong lies to industry.
