Job Details:

Be part of an exciting R&D program!

The Accelerator and Fusion Research Division has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Accelerator Physics with experience in modeling of electron beam transport, to participate in design, building, and testing of a high brightness photoinjector. The successful applicant will be expected to make significant contributions to the Advanced Photoinjector Experiment-APEX- a high-brightness and high repetition rate injector for future light source applications. APEX is part of the LBNL R&D program for a next-generation light source; other activities include high-performance photocathode development, design of high-fidelity beam delivery systems for a soft X-ray FEL array, and design of seeded FEL techniques expanding the scientific reach of future light sources.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will:

# Design and develop particle beam transport lines as part of a team of scientists, engineers, students, and technical support personnel

Use multi-physics modeling codes to understand beam dynamics issues for the APEX injector
Design electron beam transport systems
Validate simulations by participating in the APEX experimental program

Key Success Factors

# Ph.D. in Physics
# Demonstrated knowledge and skills in use of simulation codes for electron beam dynamics
and transport physics
# Familiarity with major accelerator systems and components is desirable
# Research experience relevant to high-brightness electron sources and diagnostics is
desirable
# Knowledge and skills in experimental accelerator physics is desirable
# Computer programming skills desirable
# Excellent communication skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions and ability to organize and document research results accurately
# Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
# Ability to design and carry out independent research
# Documented evidence of ability to summarize research data for publication and presentations

Notes

This is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal. Salary for postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
