Broad Research Area: Databases / Information Retrieval / Data Mining, Numerical/Scientific Computing / HPC / Data-Intensive Scalable Computing, Social Computing / Social Informatics, Theory / Algorithms

Research Interests:

During a large part of my research career I have been a nonlinear dynamics / pattern formation person, with an interest on stability, bifurcation and invariant manifold computations.

During the last ten years I have been working on multiscale numerical methods and applications, attempting to link fine-scale (atomistic, stochastic, agent-based) simulations with traditional continuum macrosocpic numerical analysis. The work links also with data-mining for the detection of good macroscopic observables of the fine scale simulations.
