Research Interests:
I am seeking a post-doc to serve as the software systems technical lead on a two-year NIH project concerning computer support for medical response in disasters (see abstract below), called WIISARD SAGE. We have a large multi-disciplinary team comprising computer scientists, emergency physicians, and computer engineers. As part of leading the software research effort, the post doc would work with several graduate students and programmers who are assisting in the effort, as well as coordinate design and evaluation efforts with the project’s medical lead. This would be an ideal project for a software engineering or systems researcher to become trained in the systems aspects of disaster informatics.
Project Abstract
———————-
Every year, natural and human-caused caused disasters in the form of hurricanes, earthquakes, and infrastructure failures put the health of millions of US citizens at risk. The proposed research project will investigate how to scale the capabilities of existing prototype mobile wireless information systems for medical response in disasters to increase the quality of care in these wide-scale, chaotic disasters. Advances will include the support of multi-site workflow in loosely networked conditions, self-adaptive configuration and scaling to accommodate the gradual arrival of first-responder teams, and the improved function and transparency of the system in the harsh and changing conditions that can compromise network connectivity.
