Broad Research Area: AI / Machine Learning / Robotics / Vision, Graphics / Visualization, Other, Social Computing / Social Informatics

Research Interests:

My group is working toward building systems that can visually understand and interact with their environment. Motivated by this goal, we think about roughly three different things: new visual sensors and methods to acquire meaningful information from their data; efficient representations of this information; and applications of these representations to computer vision and graphics tasks.

Current focus areas include shape and appearance capture, color image processing, human perception of colors and shapes, reflectance and illumination modeling, physics-based approaches to scene understanding, identity recognition, and socially-aware vision systems.
