Research Interests:

To what extent is human language production and comprehension organized to be efficient (optimal language processing; rational cognition)? We use psycholinguistic experimentation and statistical modeling to investigate speakers’ choice at various linguistic levels of online language production (e.g. phonetic shortening; contraction; disfluencies; syntactic reduction; inter-clausal planning) and the pressures driving these decisions (Uniform Information Density; availability; audience design). We investigate what cues language users employ when estimating probabilities of words and linguistic structures.
