Broad Research Area: Networks / Operating Systems

Research Interests:

Our research has two broad thrusts.

(1) Network configuration management: We are interested in exploring radical new ways to simplify enterprise network design and configuration, through the use of task-based and network-wide abstractions. Our research involves bottom-up analysis of network designs through extensive interactions with operators, and systematic top-down algorithms for designing networks. Our research is shedding light on a variety of important and poorly understood domains such as VLANs, reachability, and class of service.

(2) P2P Systems: With the proliferation of P2P systems,it is important to understand their impact on the Internet, and how
they may be deployed in a safe, secure and robust manner.
Our research is exploring issues such as preventing DDoS
reflector attacks exploiting P2P systems, detecting anomalous
traffic patterns of P2P systems, and understanding the impact
of traffic localization policies on ISP networks.
