Keywords: machine learning, graphical models, Bayesian inference, time-series modeling, image analysis, applied statistics

Posted on: Wednesday, May 20th, 2009
Broad Research Area: AI / Machine Learning / Robotics / Vision, Databases / Information Retrieval / Data Mining, Numerical/Scientific Computing / HPC / Data-Intensive Scalable Computing

Research Interests:

I am broadly interested in problems that focus on the basic principles of machine learning, particularly from a probabilistic and statistical viewpoint. In addition, most projects in my group involve the application of these ideas to a variety of interesting data-driven problems in science and engineering. Some examples of current application areas include clustering and prediction of time-course gene expression data, tracking of storms in satellite images, quantification of deforestation patterns in remote sensing image data, change detection in traffic sensor data, modeling of social networks over time, and unsupervised learning from text.
