Broad Research Area: AI / Machine Learning / Robotics / Vision

Research Interests:

My interests are in building practical devices that will be adaptive and persistent in hostile real-world environments. In my current research environment, I am working with biologists, ecologists and physical, chemical and biological oceanographers to make marine robotic platforms be responsive to environmental state to enable the study of critical problems in the coastal oceans impacted both by local forcing (anthropogenic and natural) as well as by global climate change. The key technical areas of interest are in Constraint-Based Planning and Execution, Statistical Machine Learning, AI-based Distributed Control and Mixed-Initiative systems. A secondary interest is in Work Practice Ethnography for mixed human-robotic teams and techniques in data assimilation and modeling for coastal oceanography.
