Research Interests:

The Carl E. Ravin Advanced Imaging Laboratories (RAI Labs) is a coalition of inter-dependent laboratories in the Department of Radiology at Duke Medical Center committed to advancing scientific knowledge in the field of medical imaging, enabling its clinical translation, and optimizing its clinical impact. Our mission is to pursue research that encompasses all aspects of medical imaging from bench to bedside: (i) imaging physics, (ii) image formation, (iii) image display and performance metrology, (iv) computerized image analysis, (iii) and medical imaging informatics. Our integrated identity is one of the unique assets of RAI Labs, enabling us to pursue independent projects while drawing from a close resource infrastructure of expertise and equipment.

As a faculty member of the group, my personal research interests are in the following areas:

1) Content Based Image Retrieval
a) Development of information theoretic techniques for perceptual and semantic image retrieval in mammography
b) Relevance feedback techniques

2) Medical Informatics
a) Development of knowledge databases for diagnostic interpretation of images
b) Query strategies for efficient utilization of knowledge databases
c) Application of AI algorithms for detection, classification, and prediction problems in nuclear medicine, mammography, chest radiography, and proteomics.
d) Data mining of clinical data and patient profiling
e) Research on optimized feature selection, data sampling schemes, classifier fusion
g) Patient-specific customization of decision support systems
